Marcia Henisz is Principal and Founder of SASSIE Consulting: Solutions for Academia for Safety and Security in International Experiences and is the former Senior Director of International Health, Safety and Security at Drexel University. Her current work focuses on helping instituions to manage and mitigate international risk for academic travelers, including incident response, strategy and policy development and education of travelers. She has worked in international education for over 20 years in several roles including international safety and security, study abroad advising, program development and coordination of inbound exchange students. She is an active member of the OSAC Academia Sector Committee and Women in Security and has presented on safety and security strategies at NAFSA, URMIA and OSAC conferences. Most recently, she has focused on mental health and education abroad and is the co-author of the NAFSA Guide to Education Abroad chapter "Strategies for Addressing Mental Health Concerns in Education Abroad" and a frequent presenter on the topic. Marcia's focus on strengthening international safety and security strategies comes primarily from a desire to support lifelong international understanding and learning. A former French teacher, Marcia graduated from the University of Virginia with a BA in French and an MT in foreign language education.
