Dr. Jami Leibowitz is the Associate Director of Global Affairs and Director of Global Academic Initiatives (GAI) at East Carolina University (ECU). In this position, she leads ECU’s award-winning Virtual Exchange efforts. Dr. Leibowitz’s primary responsibilities include working with ECU faculty and staff to promote, help develop and support global activities as well as lead and manage Global Partners in Education, a consortium of 49 international partner institutions in 31 countries that actively participate in GAI activities each semester. She also serves as a founding member of the International Virtual Exchange Conference (IVEC) Steering Committee. She was faculty in the Department of Anthropology at East Carolina University from 2002 until 2013 where she taught 2 to 3 virtual exchange courses each semester while also coordinating ECU’s growing virtual exchange programming. In 2013, she left the department to take on a full-time administrative position within Global Academic Initiatives. Dr. Leibowitz received her Ph.D. in Anthropology from the University of Connecticut in 2003 and is a Fulbright alumna.
