Director of International and Veteran Student Services

Shannon Bedo is the Director of International and Veteran Student Services at Houston Baptist University and has 13 years of international education experience at both large and small higher education institutions. She is responsible for leading all aspects of the international student experience at HBU and strives to build relationships across campus to ensure both the academic and social success of her students. Her previous experience includes corporate immigration, as well as advising for a variety of visas at Baylor College of Medicine. Shannon began her immigration career at Texas A&M University after she completed both her Bachelors and Masters degrees there, conducting her Masters thesis at INAT in Tunisia and studying abroad in Vietnam. Shannon currently serves as Chair-Elect on the Board of Study Texas as well as actively volunteers with NAFSA Trainer Corps and is currently the Dean of the NAFSA e-learning course F-1 Beyond the Basics. Shannon is involved in advocacy on behalf of international education at both the federal and district levels, building relationships with representatives. She was the NAFSA 2020 Advocate of the Year and currently serves on the NAFSA Region III leadership team as Advocacy Liaison.
