Assistant Director of Global Partnerships
University of Nebraska at Omaha
After studying abroad for an academic year in Malta on a Gilman scholarship, I returned to Nebraska Wesleyan University as a student employee-turned-intern in the Office of Global Engagement. Meeting with my peers to discuss their study abroad opportunities spoke to my strengths as a mentor and advisor and my interests in cultures and life-changing experiences. I credit this opportunity as the start of my career in international education.
I then worked at the University of Nebraska - Lincoln, a large public flagship institution as an international admissions counselor traveling to parts of the world I’d never seen myself visiting. There, I learned how to liaise between international students and campus stakeholders to become a strong advocate for often under-supported and unique student populations. This led me to pursue a Master’s in Global Higher Education at the University of Wisconsin - Madison and ultimately to the role of Associate Director of International Programs at Doane University, a small private liberal arts institution.
This unique role put me in the position of advising students for study abroad, advising international students, process development, and international student recruitment and admissions. Wearing these many “hats” has provided me the opportunity to become an expert across disciplines in international education and guide colleagues and students through tough and unusual situations. This was my dream job until I realized I was ready to move on from student facing operations to partnership development in a global setting. In February 2022 I began my role as the Assistant Director of Global Partnerships at the University of Nebraska at Omaha.
Global partnerships is a far reaching area that can have profound impact at an institutional level. I am excited to pursue this opportunity as global partnerships continues to grow and gain momentum in the field of international education.
