International Education at the Intersection: Culture, Privilege, and You

Presenters with rich intercultural and diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) experience share strategies for strengthening intercultural learning and DEI work, combining the best of both. Attendees investigate their own identity and privilege as it impacts this work and leave the session equipped and inspired to lead coalitions of intercultural and DEI champions.

Learning Objectives:

Understand definitions and concepts of identity, privilege, power, intercultural competence, and DEI (and apply them to one’s particular international education context).
Investigate and evaluate identities and privilege as international educators (and leave with materials and activities to help colleagues do the same).
Strategize how to build diverse coalitions of intercultural and DEI champions at institutions while taking into account the limitations and opportunities their privilege represents.
