“No, the Internal Revenue Service Won’t Deport You”: Protecting International Students from Scams

Although many international students have become accustomed to receiving fake emails from government agencies, they may not recognize scams. A Texas task force collaborated with government agencies to help protect internationals from becoming victims of scams and to make a plan to respond to fraudulent situations.

Learning Objectives:

Develop strategies for implementing scam information into the rhythms of the international student and scholar services office’s annual calendar.
Demonstrate best practices for educating internationals on how to avoid becoming victims of scammers.
