Building Social and Cultural Capacity Through Identity Exploration and Networking

Growing social and cultural capacity is challenging for new professionals, particularly those from underrepresented identities and backgrounds, as it takes extra active, intentional, and ongoing efforts. Presenters share their lived experiences and stories of how they are building capacity and networks by honoring their identities, expanding their scope, and connecting with others. The session explores the ideas of identity, connection, and growth. This session was selected as a Region IV conference highlight from the NAFSA 2021 All-Region Summit.

Learning Objectives:

Identify ways to build networks outside of one’s current scope.
Examine one’s own identity, embrace vulnerability, and practice self-reflection to determine avenues for networking and personal and professional growth.
Cultivate next steps to practice these concepts and continue learning and growing.
