As of January 2022, I will have been either a consultant or a mitigation banker for 27 years. One of the big industry changes that I noted at the 2021 NMEBC in Raleigh is that consultants are becoming mitigation bankers and mitigation bankers are becoming consultants. I think that a conversation exploring the consultant/banker relationship and how the teams work best is timely. Based on my experience, the most interesting questions that arise in the mitigation process are around site selection, technical experience and expectations, pricing, and risk allocation. Having a direct conversation and sharing perspectives on project experiences among consultants and bank sponsors may provide insights that will aid the industry moving forward.
