Principal Restoration Ecologist
SWCA
San Diego, CA
Lindsay has 20 years of experience in ecology and restoration and focuses on the management of complex multi-benefit natural resource projects. There is a huge complex life cycle to even the simplest restoration project including planning, design, permits, outreach, engagement, monitoring, reporting, education, and of course installation. Lindsay loves every element of the process and having her fingers in all of it. Restoration allows for creativity, in particular because of the heavily constrained environments we often work in. Restoration facilitates team building, partnerships, consensus building and a multi-disciplinary approach all of which give me great joy.
Lindsay completed her graduate work at San Diego State University in 2005, where she focused on eelgrass ecology and restoration in San Diego Bay. She specializes in wetland habitat assessment and restoration design, implementation, and monitoring, including development of long-term monitoring and management. Lindsay has strong working relationships with resource agency staff, a personal philosophy on holistic multi-benefit ecological restoration, and high standards for quality and client satisfaction. She prides herself on her ability to engage consultants, agencies, municipalities, and non-profits to create teams that are best suited for the task at hand.
Lindsay has focused on functional habitat assessments throughout her career, including the Hydrogeomorphic Method (HGM), California Rapid Assessment Method (CRAM), Riparian Rapid Assessment (RipRAM) and other regional/program specific methods. She is one of the lead CRAM trainers in California; she began practicing CRAM in 2007 and became a trainer in 2009. She has led focused trainings for the USACE, local Regional Water Quality Control Board as well as various flood control districts and the California Department of Transportation. She joined the State’s L2 Committee in 2012, a subcommittee of the California Wetland Monitoring Workgroup, which includes members from EPA, USFWS, and other agencies and scientific institutions. Since joining the L2 Committee, Lindsay has supported updates to field guides, technical guidance, and training materials. Most recently, she was invited to be on the Technical Advisory Committee for RipRAM which is moving from a draft methodology into the calibration and validation process.
