Household flying insects such as the house fly, Musca domestica, the fruit fly, Drosophila melanogaster, and various gnats and midges (e.g., Sciaridae) are a large nuisance problem in many areas of the world. Few, if any, effective products exist today for the chronic management of these insects within the household setting. Using Photonic Sentry Monitoring equipment, we have been able to observe and elucidate fly behavior when exposed to commercially available consumer fly traps. This behavior data is then utilized to design capture improvements.
