Incorporating cultures' role in the food and agricultural sciences

Why do we need to Incorporate Cultures’ Role in all of our own work as a faculty member, a chef, an educator, a research scientist, a parent? Why is cultures’ role important in your research, teaching, administration, and community engagement? What is the situation at the present moment? The author will present a newly recognized example of gatekeeping in the edible insect scholarly literature from the 19^th and early 20^th centuries. Then the author will explore opportunities emerging recently following the empowerment of Indigenous peoples in decolonizing and Indigenizing one’s diet for health. Along with this empowerment is the growing recognition of insects as a sovereign food for many of the 573 federally recognized Native American tribes in what is now the USA and some of the over 600 nationally recognized tribes of Canada. In conclusion, the author will propose: What could be and how to get there by starting today, right now?
