This presentation will explore the art-science collaborations in the practice of Berlin-based artist Tomás Saraceno, through his Arachnophilia project. Specifically, we will explore the art-science research convergences that emerged from an engagement with the spider’s vibrational signaling capacities, and of the web as an instrument (and extended sensory organ) for vibration. From arachno concerts to large-scale vibratory installations, this presentation will speak to how art-science collaborations have the potential to open up thinking about spiderly worlds, and possibilities for human-spider relation.
