Oedemopsis (Hymenoptera: Ichneumonidae: Tryphoninae) is a diverse, yet understudied widespread genus of wasp that parasitizes leaf rolling Lepidoptera larvae. Females of Oedemopsis are distinctive in that the clypeus is expanded, in some species becoming greatly protuberant. Currently, 18 species are described, but this study has found 48 new species from the Neotropical region alone. The talk discusses issues that arise when working with highly diverse, understudied taxa as well as the creation of patronyms that could be construed as either honorific or insulting.
