Systematics and biogeography of Xeromelissinae (Hymenoptera: Colletidae)

We will outline the taxonomy and history of our phylogenetic understanding of the bee subfamily Xeromelissinae.  We will then outline the preliminary results of a UCE-based molecular phylogeny for 101 specimens spanning the entire diversity of these bees.  Suggestions for reclassification based upon these results will be presented.  Alas, we will not be assessing the biogeographic history of the group as those analyses have yet to be completed.  We interpret the evolution of extreme modifications of mouthparts and secondary sexual characteristics in light of the new phylogeny.
