Insects commonly form complex, intimate associations with microbes in their gut. Research investigating insect-microbe interactions in diverse model organisms has led to exciting insights into both convergent and novel traits that are laying a foundation for broader understanding of how these relationships shape insect physiology, development, nutrition, and immunity.
