Introductory entomology courses can play a significant role in inspiring future entomologists. Over the past 30 years, a significant number of students have pursued careers in entomology after taking the course at Luther College. In addition to making an insect collection, this course contains elements not typical of general entomology courses, including research projects and a focus on scientific writing. I will share feedback from entomologist alumni identifying specific activities from this course that inspired them to pursue a career in entomology.
