Although science communication has diversified the forums through which it spreads its messages, it has seldom managed to capture the attention of public in general. Social networking is a powerful set of tools that can impact society almost immediately. Twitter stands out among them due the speed with it works and how light is to assimilate information presented initially in messages of no more than 280 characters. Over four years, my verified Twitter account @Arachno_cosas has built a community of more than 145,000 people. Thanks to the curiosity, like or fear towards arachnids, Arachno_cosas has given rise to objective science communication between professionals in biology or medicine and a large segment of non-specialist society. Through short and effective responses, the community is helped to know and recognize arachnid species of risk (or not) to human health, inherently achieving knowledge about these animals and other arthropods. Arachno_cosas has also meant a channel of communication between people who suffer accidents related to arachnids of medical importance and personnel trained to deal with said emergencies, saving valuable response time. The activity within my account has led different specialists in biology to follow the same model and create their own communities in which they carry out science communication activities. But above all, it has brought arachnids and their importance to the ecosystems to the fore.
