Pollinator biology is an excellent platform for cross-curriculum elementary school education. The monarch butterfly in particular allows educators to combine foreign languages, geography, social studies, writing, biology and art lessons into one cohesive educational program. The children ultimately benefit from this because they learn how to synthesize information, see real-world applications of science and culture and have an opportunity to learn with all senses. Students become environmental ambassadors through their efforts to create habitat for the monarch butterfly and other endangered species of pollinators.
