Stewardship and Policy Manager Syngenta Canada Inc. Guelph, Ontario, Canada
Multi-stakeholder partnerships can be a highly effective approach to pollinator conservation and stewardship efforts. This session will discuss Syngenta's Operation Pollinator, an international biodiversity program focused on research and partnerships to promote the health and well-being of bees and other pollinators given their essential role in agriculture and nature. The program aims to create essential habitat in field margins or on fallow land on commercial farms or golf courses, providing nesting and food resources to bees, pollinators, beneficial insects, as well as to small mammals and farmland birds, enhancing overall biodiversity. The success of global sustainability initiatives through the translation of international programs to local conditions and crops and in collaboration with local partners will be explored, with the delivery of Operation Pollinator projects in Canada as an example case. Our experience has demonstrated that supporting opportunities for voluntary stewardship can help promote practices to diversify agricultural landscapes and can result in both shared and individual benefits to be realized across partners.
