Tamara Carey, APRN, a graduate of Eastern Kentucky University, began her nurse practitioner career in November of 2016 with the University of Kentucky Surgical Oncology team. Currently, she is involved in outpatient clinical services as a part of the multidisciplinary GI team providing care to a variety of patients with upper GI malignancies, metastatic colorectal malignancies, and benign GI tumors. Tamara is also seeing patients with soft tissue/melanoma/nonmelanoma skin cancers tumors. Tamara is involved in multiple research projects alongside her faculty. Her interests include genetic/familial cancer risk assessment with a focus on GI malignancies. She is certified by the City of Hope Genetic Program. She organized a high-risk GI surveillance clinic in coordination with the genetic counseling team to provide appropriate surveillance for patients/family members who harbor germline mutations.
