Maritza Alencar has over 20 years of experience as a healthcare provider, educator, and leader. She serves as the Executive Director for Oncology Service Line of Clinical Operations at Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center. She previously served as Director of Clinical Operations for the Comprehensive Treatment Units Advanced Practice Providers, Wellness and Prevention Clinic, and Phase I Research Experimental Treatment. Maritza co-founded the only Oncology Nurse Practitioner Fellowship program in the state of Florida.
Maritza is a board-certified adult nurse practitioner with expertise in hematopoietic stem cell transplantation and immunotherapy. She established the first Long Term Care and Graft versus Host Clinic and participated in the initial Zuma 1 clinical trial that led to the FDA approval of CAR T-cell therapy in the United States. She also played an integral role in standardization of practices through development of clinical practice guidelines and implementation of EMR tools via Epic.
Maritza earned her Doctor of Nursing Practice at University of Colorado, Denver and her MBA at University of Miami. She has held roles as Adjunct Clinical Professor at Florida International University, co-authored peer-reviewed publications and book chapters. Maritza is an active member of the American Society of Transplant and Cellular Therapy (ASTCT) serving on the education and APP Special Interest Group Steering committees. She is a previous board member for the Miami-Dade Oncology Nursing Society and current board member for the Miami-Dade Nurse Practitioner Council. She selected in 2022 as a Fellow of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners.
