Thomas Statchen is a junior at the University of Pennsylvania studying bioengineering and urban studies. He first got involved with radiology research following a programming class he took his freshman year. His primary research interest is in developing new machine learning algorithms with clinical applications. He is also involved in the development of novel programs for the analysis of intra-operative surgical images. He is now a teaching assistant in the course that originally interested him in programming. Following his undergraduate studies, he hopes to go to medical school to continue to develop novel clinical tools and programs.
