Vice Chair & Director UKC3 & YCSC Barnsley, England, United Kingdom
After 18 years in the industry, the presenter says she's the biggest imposter she knows! In her presentation, she hopes to give insight into how her non-traditional routes into the industry haven't impacted my ability to have a very successful cybersecurity career. She's discuss how she became a female entrepreneur, a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Cyber Security, and was awarded an OBE in this year's honors for contributions to the industry and cybersecurity—with zero cyber capability.
In this presentation, she will explain why cyber recruitment is broken and what we can do as cyber professionals to grow future talent by looking at personal resilience, a risk-based approach, and not just cyber qualification and years of experience.
Learning Objectives:
Consider an alternative to the traditional recruitment norms. Challenge the approach your organization takes to recruit cyber practitioners. Think about the long game of hiring future talent and the quick wins that could be addressed by a more flexible working approach and your role as an ambassador and mentor.
Define the qualities, values and personal strengths you want your dream security team to have— not just the ideal qualifications and experience. Be able to demonstrate the impact this can have on team morale, job satisfaction and tenure.
List key characteristics required for both your business and prospective employees in order to develop your business reach and output.
