Steven K. Schmitt, MD, FIDSA is head of the Section of Bone and Joint Infections at the Cleveland Clinic and Associate Professor of Medicine in the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine of Case Western Reserve University.

Dr. Schmitt has served IDSA in a variety of roles. He is a past chair of the IDSA Clinical Affairs Committee and the Value of Infectious Diseases Specialists Task Force, and a past member of the IDSA Board of Directors. He is currently a member of the Leadership Institute Workgroup. He is a past president of the Musculoskeletal Infection Society and the Infectious Diseases Society of Ohio.

Steve has played an active role in advocacy for reimbursement for ID services. He is chair of the IDSA Physician Compensation Task Forced and is an IDSA representative to the AMA CPT Editorial Committee. He also is active in physician professionalism programs at the Cleveland Clinic.
