Dr. Diaz completed his medical residency and also served as a Chief Medical Resident at the University of Utah. He has been practicing Infectious Diseases at Providence Regional Medical Center Everett (PRMCE) since completing his training in Infectious Diseases at the University of Washington in 2005. His clinical prarice is as a hospital-based Infectious Diseases provider. He is the Chief of Medicine and Medical Director of Antimicrobial Stewardship and Infection Prevention at PRMCE. He also works for Providence St. Joseph Health as a System Provider Informaticist, which focuses on improving the Infectious Diseases care of patients by improving the electronic medical record. He provides service to the Infectious Diseases Society of America as a spokesman and is a former member of the Clinical Affairs Committee. He also serves as a member of the Epic Infectious Diseases Steering Board (based in Wisconsin). He has an appointment as Clinical Assistant Professor in the Washington State University College of Medicine.
He is an expert in the treatment of COVID-19 and has been featured by the US State Department in a foreign press briefing and a New England Journal of Medicine Catalyst podcast. He is a principal investigator on multiple clinical trials for COVID therapeutics based at Providence Regional Medical Center in Everett, WA. He has been an co-author on 3 publications in the New England Journal of Medicine in the use of Remdesivir for COVID-19 and first author in JAMA describing myocarditis and pericarditis after COVID-19 vaccination. His teaching assignments include 4th year medical student Infectious Diseases clerkship, and serving as a Specialty Education Coordinator for the WSU Internal Medicine Residency Program based at PRMCE.
