Doran L. Fink, MD, PhD, is Acting Deputy Director of the Office of Vaccines Research and Review (OVRR) in FDA's Center for Biologics Evaluation and Research (FDA/CBER). Dr. Fink oversees review of preventive vaccines for infectious diseases and related biological products. Dr. Fink is a member of the leadership group within OVRR responsible for FDA’s development and implementation of vaccine regulation policies and procedures, and also for FDA’s collaboration with other U.S. and international public health agencies and regulatory authorities, including serving as the FDA liaison to the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices. Dr. Fink joined FDA in 2010 as a Medical Officer in OVRR's principal review division (DVRPA) and was promoted to Clinical Team Leader in 2013. During this time he was responsible for primary and supervisory review of a broad portfolio of vaccines and related biological products. He was then promoted to Deputy Director for Clinical Review of DVRPA in 2018 and has been on detail as the Acting Deputy Director for OVRR since April 2022.
In addition to his leadership responsibilities in regulatory review and policy matters, Dr. Fink has led the FDA/CBER track of a pediatric infectious diseases fellowship training program sponsored jointly with Children's National Hospital (CNH) in Washington, DC. In this capacity, he holds an adjunct faculty position with the George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences and has contributed to training of medical students, residents, and fellows in the CNH Division of Pediatric Infectious Diseases.
Dr. Fink is board certified in Pediatrics and Pediatric Infectious Diseases. He completed his residency and fellowship training at The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. His post-doctoral fellowship research focused on development of novel diagnostics for filarial diseases. Dr. Fink received his MD and PhD degrees from the Medical Scientist Training Program at Washington University in St. Louis School of Medicine, where he researched virulence factors associated with the pathogenesis of disease due to nonytpeable Haemophilus influenzae. Prior to that, he completed his undergraduate education at Stanford University.
