A 1978 graduate of the UMKC School of Medicine, Dr. Jackson completed pediatric residency at Cincinnati Children’s, and infectious diseases fellowship at the University of Texas Southwestern, before joining the faculty at Children’s Mercy Kansas City. Dr. Jackson is a Professor of Pediatrics and has been the the Dean of the UMKC School of Medicine since 2018. Recognized with teaching and mentorship awards locally, regionally and nationally, she is widely recognized for developing one of the nation’s most robust pediatric infectious diseases fellowship programs and one of the first pediatric antibiotic stewardship programs in the country. A past associate editor of the American Academy of Pediatrics "Red Book", she is a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics, the Infectious Disease Society of America and the Pediatric Infectious Disease Society, and served from 2017-2021 as a member of the National Vaccine Advisory Committee. She is a national thought leader in pediatric infectious disease topics and her research efforts continue to focus on the epidemiology of emerging viruses, prevention of antibiotic resistance, judicious use of antibiotics, diagnosis and treatment of Kawasaki disease, and optimal education and implementation of vaccines. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she has served on advisory committees at the University, the state and national level. She is the author of more than 375 peer reviewed abstracts, publications and book chapters on topics related to infectious diseases epidemiology, clinical presentation, diagnosis, treatment and prevention of communicable infections.
