Dr. Andrea Shahum, earned her medical degree at Comenius University in Bratislava, Slovakia and completed her ID fellowship at the Institute for Global Health and Infectious Diseases, University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill where she also worked as an Assistant Professor. Throughout her fellowship Dr. Shahum worked in Cambodia as a WHO Technical Advisor for HIV partner notification and later with the UNC-China research team in Guangzhou, China implementing an augmented HIV and syphilis partner services. Her long-term commitment to a career in public health, with a focus on infectious diseases began many years ago by working at humanitarian missions in several developing countries, including Kenya, South Sudan, and Cambodia.
From September 2021, Dr. Shahum began to work for International SOS Government Medical Services to assist with medical care of Afghan evacuees at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst in New Jersey. She spent there 6 months throughout the mission as an Infectious diseases physician and Public Health Director.
