Peter MacPherson is a Public Health physician and academic researcher. He holds a PhD from the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine, UK, a Masters in Public Health from the Harvard School of Public Health, and trained in medicine at the University of Aberdeen, Scotland. He holds honorary positions as Professor of Population Health at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, and as Consultant in Communicable Disease Control with the UK Health Security Agency.
Peter has worked in Blantyre, Malawi since 2010, where he leads the Public Health Research Group. His research focuses on the development and evaulation of novel tools to improve diagnosis and treatment of TB and HIV in resource-limited settings. He has been principal investigator on several large randomised trials incvestigating computer-aided X-ray diagnosis of TB, HIV self-testing, and intensified TB contact investigations. Additionally, he lead several systematic reviews and meta-analyses for the 2021 WHO TB Screening Guidelines, and 2021 HIV Treatment Guidelines.
Peter is proud to support a dynamic multidisciplinary team of Malawian and international researchers who are committed to ending HIV and TB epidemics in Malawi and worldwide.
