Makoto Jones is an infectious diseases physician, a health services researcher, and an informatician at the University of Utah. His career vision is to improve the science around using big data in decision-making in the areas of biosurveillance, antimicrobial stewardship, and infection control-- to create evidence, to improve the decision-making process, to evaluate the success of current policies, and to support information-driven processes that support policy implementation. Working primarily with Department of Veterans Affairs electronic health record data, he has investigated the use of information systems to find, identify, and address problems in these areas, including applications to diagnostic error and clinical pathway description (the latter in a VA project with Oak Ridge National Laboratories).
