Emily Abdoler, MD, MAEd is an Assistant Professor of Medicine at the University of Michigan Medical School. She works clinically in adult Infectious Diseases, is co-director of the Infectious Diseases & Microbiology course for medical students, co-director of the Academy of Medical Educators, assistant program director for the Infectious Diseases fellowship, undergraduate medical education lead for faculty development in DEIAJ, and co-lead of Active Learning within the preclinical medical school curriculum. For IDSA, she currently serves on the Education Committee and the Leadership Institute Working Group and is an active member of the Medical Education Community of Practice. Her research focuses on metacognition in medical education - including clinical reasoning and deliberate practice - and she is actively involved in curriculum development, educational program evaluation, and projects related to assessment and medical education careers for subspecialists. In 2022, she was proud to have been award the M. Brownell Anderson Award for early-career medical educators for the AAMC's Central Group on Educational Affairs.
She earned her medical degree from the University of Michigan Medical School. Prior to medical school, she was a pre-doctoral fellow in Bioethics at the National Institutes of Health Clinical Center. She completed a residency in Internal Medicine and fellowship in Adult Infectious Diseases at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). While at UCSF, she also completed an advanced fellowship in Health Professions Education Evaluation and Research at the San Francisco VA Health Center and received her Masters in Education with a Health Professions emphasis through the University of California, Berkeley.
