Dr. Sapna Morris most recently served as a medical officer on the HIV Care and Treatment Branch, in the Division of Global HIV and TB, at CDC. Before that, she served as the Team Lead for the Medical Consultation Team (Field Services Branch) within the Division of Tuberculosis Elimination (DTBE) at CDC since August 2016, during which time she detailed as CDC’s Clinical Disease and Health Systems Team Lead for approximately 18 months in the emergency operations center for COVID-19 response. Sapna joined CDC in 2006 as an Epidemic Intelligence Service (EIS) Officer with the International Emergency and Refugee Health Branch in the National Center for Environmental Health, an assignment that led to work with displaced/affected populations in Kenya, Nepal, Vietnam, Azerbaijan, Thailand, and Swaziland. In 2008, Sapna took a full time medical officer position with the Outbreak Investigations Team within the Division of TB Elimination. She was involved in numerous outbreak responses as well as operational research, with a particular focus on TB in persons experiencing homelessness, multidrug resistant TB, and disease affecting the residents of the U.S. affiliated Pacific Islands.
Sapna completed her residency in internal medicine at Case Western’s MetroHealth Medical Center, a fellowship in infectious diseases at The Cleveland Clinic, and a Physician’s Executive MBA focusing on health care policy and management. With a background in social work before attending medical school, Sapna has a passion for addressing the health care needs of those experiencing homelessness and has volunteered extensively with homeless service providers over the last 20(+) years. Sapna has remained clinically active, seeing patients in TB clinics, primary health clinics for the underserved, and hospitalized patients for infectious disease related problems.
