Christopher F. Carpenter, MD, MHSA, FACP, FIDSA, Beaumont Hospital, Royal Oak, Michigan and Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine, Rochester, Michigan
Dr. Carpenter earned his Bachelor of Science in engineering and his Doctorate of Medicine from the University of Michigan. He subsequently completed internal medicine residency at Duke University followed by infectious diseases fellowship at Johns Hopkins University before joining Beaumont Hospital, Royal Oak as a faculty member and clinician in 2000. Dr. Carpenter also earned his Master of Health Services Administration from the University of Michigan School of Public Health in 2017.
In addition to patient care, Dr. Carpenter initially focused on antimicrobial stewardship, serving as director of Beaumont, Royal Oak’s stewardship program for fifteen years. He directed the Infectious Diseases Fellowship Program for ten years and served as head of the Section of Infectious Diseases for five years. Currently he serves as Chief and Chair of the Department of Internal Medicine at Beaumont Hospital, Royal Oak and the Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine, Physician Executive for Medical Specialties for the Beaumont Medical Group, and Professor of Internal Medicine at the Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine. Dr. Carpenter continues to contribute as a clinical investigator, recently serving as site investigator for a COVID-19 vaccine study, and he has been active in the Infectious Diseases Society of America and the Michigan Infectious Disease Society having served multiple roles in both societies. He has also previously served on the FDA Antimicrobial Drugs Advisory Committee and the FDA Medical Devices Panel. Dr. Carpenter is also serving on the BHSH System Board of Directors,
