Monica Burrell, MPH, data analyst in support of the Department of Defense (DoD) Birth and Infant Health Research (BIHR) program, located at the Naval Health Research Center in San Diego, CA. Initially developed to monitor birth defects, the mission of the BIHR program has expanded to conduct regular surveillance of births to military members and their spouses and ongoing research of maternal, pregnancy, and infant health outcomes (including birth defects) to understand how military service affects reproductive health. Prior to joining the BIHR team, Monica worked as a public health research associate for Conduent Healthy Communities Institute. She is also a veteran, having served in the U.S. Coast Guard for 12 years.
