After completing the fellowship in 2003, Dr. Maples took a faculty position with the UAMS College of Pharmacy with split funding with Arkansas Children’s. In 2007, in addition to antibiotic TDM, the antimicrobial stewardship program was initialized. She also developed in 2007, the post-graduate training programs of pediatric ID and antimicrobial stewardship.
Dr. Maples is heavily involved in all three aspects of antimicrobial stewardship: clinical, education, and research. She is leading expansion or antimicrobial stewardship services to inpatient of both Children’s campuses as well as outpatient opportunities and extension out to pediatricians across the state. Her research is around quality improvement of antimicrobial usage and engages trainees of all levels to be involved to help meet the missions of interprofessional education as well as teaching multiple disciplines about their roles as team members in antimicrobial stewardship.
