Born and raised in the Philippines, Dr. Charmaine Abalos earned her degree in Bachelor of Nursing and Doctor of Medicine at the University of Santo Tomas where she both graduated as Cum Laude. She then proceded to completed her year of internship at the country's Department of Health Internship Program where she devoted most of her time participating in outreach programs that allowed health care to be accesible to underserved people. While she originally planned to practice medicine in her home country, her love for medicine and pursuit to improving herself as a physician brought her in the US. She received her training in Internal Medicine at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Youngstown, Ohio. During her training, she was able to participate in various scholarly activities and presented at multiple local and regional scientific gatherings. She was awarded as Best Researcher of the Year during her graduation ceremony. It was also during her training, that paved the way for her to apply for fellowship. Dr. Abalos is currently board certified in Internal Medicine and is on her second year fellowship for combined Infectious Disease- Critical Care Medicine program at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA.
