Kana Horiuchi is a scientist in the Laboratory for Drug Discovery and Development, SHIONOGI & CO., LTD. She received her Bachelor of Pharmacy in 2008 and Master of Pharmacy in 2010 from Department of Drug metabolism and pharmacokinetics, Graduate School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Showa Pharmaceutical University. In 2010, she started her career as a scientist in a nonclinical drug metabolism and pharmacokinetics (DMPK) team at Shionogi and she has been involved in the drug discovery and development. She has been working to improve the PK prediction in humans by using physiologically-based pharmacokinetic (PBPK) modeling and simulation approaches (J Pharm Sci. 2018 May;107(5):1443-1453. doi: 10.1016/j.xphs.2017.12.027. Epub 2018 Jan 10). Currently, she has also focused on the prediction about drug-drug interaction (DDI) in humans. She uses PBPK Simulator named Simcyp® (Certara UK Limited, UK) to develop PBPK models and simulate the DDIs.
