Dr. Ziad Mallat, MD, PhD, BHF Professor of cardiovascular medicine at the University of Cambridge, received his MD and qualification in cardiovascular diseases from the University of Pierre et Marie Curie in 1996, and his Ph.D. in cardiovascular physiology from the University of Paris-Diderot in 1999. He joined INSERM, Paris in 1998 as Assistant Research Professor, then became Associate Professor in 2002 and Research Professor in 2007. He is currently BHF Professor of cardiovascular medicine at the University of Cambridge, UK. Dr. Mallat served from 2004 to 2008 as a scientific advisor to the General Director of INSERM, France. He has been elected Fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences, UK. Dr. Mallat has published over 250 papers in peer-reviewed journals. His work identified prominent roles for specific pathogenic and regulatory pathways in atherosclerosis and post-ischaemic tissue remodelling. His basic research activities are complemented by proof-of-concept clinical trials in patients with coronary artery disease. Mallat is on the editorial board of Circulation Research and JCI Insight, associate editor of Arteriosclerosis Thrombosis and Vascular Biology, and co-editor of Atherosclerosis.
