Emilio Letang is a Medical Doctor specialist in Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases with over 15 years of experience in HIV/AIDS. The main driver of his work has been the fight against poverty-related diseases associated with HIV, both in sub-Saharan Africa and in Europe, including opportunistic infections, advanced HIV disease and pediatric HIV in Africa, as well as HIV among vulnerable populations in Europe. During his career, he has strived for keeping a balance between clinical, research and teaching activities. He has treated thousands of people living with HIV in Africa and Europe and has written several manuscripts in first-quartile peer-reviewed journals. Dr Letang regularly teaches postgraduate and MSc courses at the University of Barcelona and has served as a Faculty member of the European AIDS Clinical Society. He also participated in the development group of the WHO guidelines on Advanced HIV Disease. Dr Letang holds a medical degree from the Autonomous University of Barcelona, an MSc degree in Tropical Medicine and International Health from the University of Barcelona, an MSc degree in HIV/AIDS from the University of Barcelona, an MSc degree in public health from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, and a PhD in Medicine from the University of Barcelona. Since May 2021, he serves as a Global Scientific Advisor for the DTG team at ViiV Healthcare.
