Dr. Daniel DeSimone is an associate professor of medicine and consultant in the Division of Infectious Diseases at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. He also holds a joint appoint in the department of Cardiovascular Diseases. He completed medical school at the University at Buffalo School of Medicine in Buffalo, NY, then completed Internal Medicine Residency and Infectious Diseases Fellowship at Mayo Clinic.
Dr. DeSimone's research expertise is in cardiovascular infections including vascular graft infections, cardiac device infections, and the prevention, diagnosis, and management of infective endocarditis where he has 70 peer-reviewed publications. He is on the writing group for the American Heart Association’s scientific statement on the prevention of viridans group streptococci infective endocarditis. He also has particular interest in the diagnosis and management of infective endocarditis in people who inject drugs.
