Dr Merlin Moni,MD is currently employed as Clinical Associate Professor at the division of Infectious Diseases, department of Internal Medicine in Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences, Kochi. She received her medical degree from Government Medical college, Kottayam and subsequently did MD in Internal Medicine at TD Medical college, Alappuzha . She started her career in Internal Medicine in Amrita Hospital, Kochi. She developed and followed her passion for infectious diseases from being the clinical lead for implementation of the signature antimicrobial stewardship program at Amrita Hospital .She pursued fellowship in Infectious Diseases from Amrita University and is currently the clinical head of Infection Control and Employee Health Services at Amrita Hospital. She was the part of the team which spearheaded the COVID pandemic response and received grants from ICMR and BIRAC fror COVID Projects. She has been one of the clinical champions in the institutional antibiotic stewardship program and was involved in the formulation of hospital antibiotic dosage protocols. Her core area of research interest being Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR), she had her key publications in related top tier journals . Her research publication on the clinical use of inhaled nitric oxide in COVID had been gained international recognition. In addition, she took active roles in several quality improvement projects and also holds the title of clinical safety officer at Amrita.
