Dr. Shukla is an associate professor in the division of infectious diseases at the University of Miami and serves as the medical director for infection control for the UM health system. His interests include infection control, hospital epidemiology, antimicrobial stewardship, and medical education. His recent research activities have focused on understanding the transmission dynamics of multi-drug resistant organisms as well as effects of antimicrobial stewardship training programs on antibiotic utilization. For the duration of the COVID-19 pandemic, he has been assisting with operational response for the UM healthcare system and has engaged in research in this area as well, particularly in the realm of wastewater surveillance.
