John A. Jernigan, M.D., M.S. is currently Chief, Epidemiology Research and Innovations Branch, Division of Healthcare Quality Promotion, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and Adjunct Associate Professor of Medicine at the Emory University School of Medicine, Division of Infectious Diseases. He has authored/coauthored over 140 peer-reviewed publications dealing with the epidemiology of healthcare-associated infections and antimicrobial resistance. He has served on the Board of Directors for both the Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology (APIC) and the Society for Healthcare Epidemiology of America (SHEA), was named the SHEA Investigator awardee in 2005, and served as president of SHEA in 2013. His role in CDC’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic has focused on the epidemiology and prevention of SARS-CoV-2 transmission in healthcare settings.
