Professor Jens Lundgren, specialist in infectious diseases, is founder and director, Centre of Excellence for Health, Immunity and Infections (CHIP), University of Copenhagen & Rigshospitalet. Initial focus in carrier on HIV. In recent years, focus expanded to include respiratory infections (e.g. influenza and recently SARS-CoV-2), and infections in patients with other types of immune dysfunction (incl transplantation, oncology, haematology, and treated patients with autoimmune disease). Chair of the scientific steering committee for the global infectious diseases trial network INSIGHT (International Network for Strategic Initiatives in Global HIV Trials) and since 2022 of the global trial platform STRIVE (Strategies and Treatment for Respiratory Infections and Viral Emergies); primary funded is the Division of Research, NIAID, US. (Co)-principal investigator of several large domestic and international trials including the HIV trials SMART and START, hospitalized COVID-19 trial TICO/ACTIV-3, and SARS-CoV-2 vaccine trials incl VATICO/ACTIV-3, and ENFORCE. Director of the WHO Collaborative Centre on HIV, viral hepatitis and tuberculosis. Founder of EuroSIDA and PI for the D:A:D and PARTNER studies- international observational studies of large cohorts of HIV-positive persons, examining outcome and safety of antiretroviral agents. Member of Member of American Society for Clinical Investigation (ASCI) and Association of American Physicians (AAP). Mentors several younger colleagues in their research development; completed: 33 PhD and 9 D.M.Sc., ongoing supervision: 12 PhD and 1 D.M.Sc. Authored 801 publications in peer-reviewed medical journals; cited 44.564 times, H-index of 97.
