Dr. Berjohn earned her undergraduate degree in Biological Sciences from the University of Chicago, Chicago, IL in 2003, and her Master of Public Health from Drexel University, Philadelphia, PA in 2006. She then earned her Doctor of Medicine degree (MD) from Southern Illinois University School of Medicine, Springfield, IL in 2010. She completed her Internal Medicine Residency in 2013 and Infectious Diseases Fellowship in 2015 at Naval Medical Center San Diego. She is Board Certified in both Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases.
After Fellowship, Dr. Berjohn served for two years as Department Head for Clinical Research Investigations at US Naval Medical Research Unit-2, Phnom Penh, Cambodia from 2015-17. She then returned as a staff physician to Naval Medical Center San Diego where she was Division Head for Infectious Diseases from 2017-2020. During this time, she also deployed with Pacific Partnership 2018 on the USNS MERCY (T-AH 19). In 2020, she deployed again with the USNS MERCY for the first DSCA (Defense Support of Civil Authorities) activities in response to COVID-19, where she led Infection Control and shipboard response planning, and then directly transferred to the USNS KANSAS CITY (LCS-22), also in support of COVID-19.
Dr. Catherine Berjohn presently serves as the Program Director for Infectious Diseases at Naval Medical Center San Diego, where she works as both Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases staff, as well as the Site Director for the Infectious Diseases Clinical Research Program (IDCRP). She additionally holds an appointment as an Assistant Professor of Medicine at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USUHS), and is a Commander in the US Navy.
