Sanjat Kanjilal, MD MPH is a Lecturer in the Department of Population Medicine at the Harvard Pilgrim Health Care Institute and the Associate Medical Director of Clinical Microbiology at the Brigham & Women’s Hospital (BWH). He is also an infectious diseases physician at the BWH. His research focuses on four areas:
- Improving our understanding of infectious diseasess diagnostics for bacterial and viral infections
- Understanding the emergence, spread, and decline of antibiotic-resistant bacteria using observational data
- Developing and evaluating probabilistic models to provide personalized clinical decision support at the point of care
- Expanding SARS-CoV-2 testing capacity in healthcare settings and skilled nursing facilities using translational research
He collaborates with scientists at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory to develop machine learning models trained on data contained in the electronic health record and large surveillance databases. Dr. Kanjilal is also a co-instructor of Microbiology at Harvard Medical School and a scientific advisor for a start-up company focused on developing rapid diagnostic assays for antibiotic resistance.
