Dr. Ayalew is an Infectious Diseases Clinical Pharmacy Specialist and Co-Director of the Antimicrobial Stewardship Program at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. She led the effort in starting the Antimicrobial Stewardship Program at the facility that received Infectious Diseases Society of America’s Antimicrobial Stewardship Center of Excellence (CoE) designation and provides pharmacy services to the adult infectious diseases consult teams. Dr. Ayalew completed her B.S. in Biology at the University of the District of Columbia, and her PharmD at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) School of Pharmacy. Her American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP)-accredited Acute Care Pharmacy Practice Residency was fulfilled at Novant Health Forsyth Medical Center. Her past leadership positions include president-elect and president of the District of Columbia College of Clinical Pharmacy (DC-CCP). She is currently an active member of the Society of Infectious Diseases Pharmacists (SIDP), American College of Clinical Pharmacy (ACCP), American academy of HIV Medicine (AAHIVM), Infectious Diseases Society of America (IDSA) and Transatlantic Taskforce on Antimicrobial Resistance (TATFAR).
