Benjamin Custer is a second-year infectious diseases fellow at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center (WRNMMC). He grew up in Colorado and graduated from Colorado College with a BA in biochemistry in 2006. After graduating, he spend several years in China, where he taught himself Mandarin and worked as a high school calculus and statistics teacher before working as conference coordinator for the International Association for Ecology and Health's 2012 biennial conference, held in Kunming, China. He then went on to medical school at the Uniformed Services University, where he graduated in 2017. He completed residency in internal medicine at WRNMMC in 2020. Research interests include HIV immunology, antibiotic resistance and climate change/biodiversity as they relate to infectious diseases. When not busy with fellowship, he enjoys being with his wife and new son, rock climbing and photography.
