Lizette Brenes, MPH, is an epidemiologist with the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) Healthcare-Associated Infections (HAI) Program. In her current role since 2021, she provides epidemiologic and statistical support for state HAI public reporting and program prevention and response activities. This includes evaluation of infection prevention education and facility-level antimicrobial stewardship initiatives, and analysis of incidence and risk factors of bloodstream infections (BSI) for HAI Program annual public reporting and targeted hospital outreach. Prior to joining the HAI Program, Lizette designed and implemented chronic disease surveillance systems, conducted community health assessments, and provided consultation for local health coalitions in tracking social determinants of health and measuring barriers to health care access and disease prevention.
