Dr. Jorge Paiva Parada is a Professor of Medicine and Public Health Loyola University Chicago and the Hospital Epidemiologist & Regional Medical Director of the Loyola Medicine Infection Prevention and Control Program. He is also Research Associate of the Infectious Diseases and Immunology Research Institute (InDIRI) at Loyola University and a Senior Research Associate at the Hines VA Center of Innovation for Complex Chronic Healthcare (CINCCH) and is a former VA Research Career Development Awardee.
He is an active clinician and teacher. The focus of his research is clinical effectiveness, outcomes, and resource utilization in infectious diseases with a focus on infection control and the prevention of healthcare associated infections. This includes promoting vaccine use, and preventing C. difficile, MRSA, and important devise-related infections, such as CLABSIs, CAUTIs, VAPs and Surgical site infections (SSIs), as well as improving hand hygiene practices. His interest in vector-borne infections and travel medicine dates back to his training at the Lisbon Institute of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene and field work in Angola.
